Playa del Carmen is a big cosmopolitan city. There's plenty to do there, especially good if you have a non-kiting companion. The town is very safe and decent with nice architecture.
Soft, white sand beach is wide enough to launch.
This spot is the stop for the PKRA.

Flat to choppy. Some 3' shore break in higher winds. Some little reef breaks close to shore. Some shallow areas near shore. Very clean, clear water and turquoise spots in shallow areas. May not be too interesting for those wanting waves. A mellow spot.
