This is the most eastern spot of Australia, and it's also a nice area to kite in a wonderful bay.
Sometimes you will find decent waves at Main but local surfers recommend you hit other beaches such as Clark’s Beach and The Pass for the ‘quality’ wave breaks.

If you only have time for one day trip away from beautiful Byron, then climb to the spectacular summit of Mount Warning. From its spiked, peaked lookout you can see panoramic views of the region and coastline. The mountain summit is around 1100 metres high and the return walk can take at least four to five hours, most people leave before dawn to witness the beautiful sun rise over the ocean.

Night scene:

Byron Bay has plentiful cafes and restaurants, interesting new age shops (understand "expensive tourist shops", a roaring nightlife centred on its three hotels: Beach Hotel, Great Nothern or the Rails :)
