Kailua (Hawaii) is a bay with nice sandy beach and a very popular all around kitesurf and windsurf spot in the islands. Because of the conditions that can be found here Kailua is great for beginners. Occaionally in winter double/triple-overhead waves break over the shallow reef, making it a challenging spot for experts. Normal conditions are 12-20 knots and average kite is 12m.
There have been many problems with kites in trees, yards, on people, etc. The Kailua Neighborhood Board is avidly trying to ban kiting at Kailua. We ask all visitors to be very safe and cautious when launching and landing, which must be done in the designated area at the very left of the beach park.
