‘The Real African Kite Experience’ is a one of a kind kite surfing safari that until now has never been done before…we think of it as more of an expedition!
The idea came to us last year, when for our yearly holiday we decided to travel from the south coast of Kenya, where we live and work, all round Kenya with our final ‘mission’ being the first kite surfers on Lake Turkana.
Lake Turkana is one of the harshest and probably the most remote area of Kenya, situated in the north west of the country close to the borders of Ethiopia and Sudan.
The sceneries are simply amazing and unique…you would think that you were looking at the moon’s landscape. The north east of the lake is known as ‘The cradle of mankind’, and believe us there is a very strong feeling when you get to the lake, that this is home.
The lake is also notorious for its resident crocodiles, which to popular belief are the largest in the world. Although these facts may scare you off, it is very safe to kite surf at our secret spot, as the lagoon is not popular with the crocs.
On May 14th 2006 at 06:30am, two of us, Boris Polo and Chris Derksen were the first kite surfers ever on Lake Turkana. Who ever comes on this safari will be the next!
This year we will begin our trip in Nairobi on the 1st of November, and the three main missions are to kite surf on Lake Victoria (largest lake in Africa), Lake Turkana (cradle of mankind), and Indian Ocean on both the north and south coasts of Kenya. Along the way you will see most of Kenya and all that this amazing country has to offer.
From game viewing, white water rafting, bungee jumping, fishing, ‘zip-lining’, land boarding, and kite surfing, this will be an adventure of a life time!
In addition you will meet many interesting characters and see some of Kenya’s unchanged tribes, to mention a few Maasai, Samburu, Pokot, Turkana…and many more.

Your hosts / guides on this expedition will be Boris Polo and Alex Rostocil. They are both born and bred in Kenya and share the same passion for this amazing continent called Africa.
